Description Paul Hüber 2008-08-18 13:53:51 UTC
in /etc/conf.d/lircd there is an example for specifying a device by it's name:

# Maybe this works (untested):
# LIRCD_OPTS="-H devinput name='*DVB*'"

trying to use this option, the init script starts lircd like this:

start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --pidfile /var/run/lircd.pid --exec /usr/sbin/lircd -- -P /var/run/lircd.pid -H devinput 'name='\''*DVB*'\'''

that weird quoting leads to lircd recognizing the 'name=' parameter as a config file name and using the first input device in /dev/input.

lircd-0.8.3[14175]: could not open config file 'name=*DVB*'

after changing the line in /etc/conf.d/lircd to
LIRCD_OPTS="-H devinput -d name=*DVB*"
everything works fine.

Reproducible: Always

Fixed example config file in CVS.
Comment 2 Arne Flagge 2009-11-10 13:34:34 UTC
The bug is not fixed. The patch missed the important part. You need a '-d' before the name='=*DVB'".
Comment 3 Roger 2011-12-23 18:21:27 UTC
The "-d name=" option does not work using single quotes or any spaces.

When using LIRCD_OPTS="-H devinput -d name="*WinTV HVR-1950 Model 75"", the spaces will pass the next text as a command. (ie. HVR-1950: command not found)

Also, using long strings fails such as "name=WinTV?HVR-1950?Model?75" or "name=WinTV*HVR-1950*Model*75", but "name=*HVR-1950*" works. No error is reported using the longer strings and "ps ax" shows the exact string as typed.

A separate issue, the rc script should remove an existing /dev/lircd link if a lircd process does not exist. IE. lircd service is stopped, but a stale/old /dev/lircd remains and it does not appear to be a critical issue to me. Otherwise, lircd service will fail to start over such a miniscule issue.

If I get a little time, I'll try to tend to the issues -- filing the fixes here or on a new bug.
