Last time I checked "=sys-devel/gettext-0.16.1"!="=sys-devel/gettext-0.16.1-r1", so 100% invalid. And revdep-rebuild doesn't check if the package is still in the tree.
Ah, sorry misunderstood you. But that's not really a bug, bad design maybe. That's cause a versioned dependencies have to be reported that way - must be listed what is exactly masking a package: keyword or package.mask. Yours is simply atypical use case.
I'm getting the usual Calculating dependencies \ emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "=sys-devel/gettext-0.16.1". message. May it be that you have this ebuild w/o keyword locally, in some overlay - or some local masking in place Portage irregularly falls about?

I do not have gettext listed in my package.keywords file either. I mainly posted this error becuase my friend got it when running 'revdep-rebuild'. I was able to reproduce the error (and still am able to reproduce it) when running 'emerge "=sys-devel/gettext-0.16.1"'. I know this is a very minor bug that may resolve itself in the future, i just wanted to post it. I don't understand portage very well, but i thought from the beggining that it was most liked caused by a badly designed ebuild, or the remains of a previous ebuild
