in the ebuild is needed some einfo to inform user to instal gst-plugins-mad to play mp3. Nor expirienced user now can not found the reason, why (great) bmplayer dont plays anything.. Maybe should use some USE flags : mp3, oog to implement relevant gst-plugins to dependences. .i do not know. Now gentoo is rightfully scroffed on the bmpx site for this reason..

..maybe this is a more likely bug of gstreamer ebuild?

bmpx installs gst-plugins-meta, which then again pulls in gst-plugins-mad for it based on the USE flag,

gst-plugins-meta-0.10-r2.ebuild:	mad? ( >=media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad-0.10 )

oki... but last stable version:
media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta-0.10  USE="X alsa oss xv -esd"
