The gspca driver has been accepted into the 2.6.27 prerelease kernel. According to the author, "Linux will now support most webcams available at the market" after adding this patch. Please consider for inclusion in the gentoo patchset. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
It is in .27 and with .27 it will be gentoo-sources.
According to dsd new features in upstream development kernels can be considered for backporting to current release kernels. http://www.reactivated.net/weblog/archives/2007/07/new-hardware-support-in-the-gentoo-kernel/
I see, kernel folks your bug. :)
From the link: "This series includes 47416 line insersions[sic]!" Wow, that's quite a big patch.
Backports of all of v4l/dvb already exist and can be easily checked out from here: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/mkrufky/v4l-dvb-2.6.x.y.git I somehow doubt that backporting the gspca driver alone is worth anyone's time.
Maybe this bug can be closed, now that gentoo-sources-2.6.27 is on the tree?
Yes, it is fixed by gentoo-sources-2.6.27
