One of the best versions on my system for a long while and kernel 2.6.25 is about to go stable. So please cc arches.
Agreed
x86 stable
Here on amd64 works fine, except for a horrible bug with wine and cedega: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10940 For amd64 it was better the previus, but this one has clock gating enabled. I think it should be better to way the next week for 8.7 to decide which one to stabilize. :-)
I have a similar problem as the one refered by #3 when I start World of Warcraft. I am on amd64 with standard wine ebuild (no cedega). I only tested once before I went back to the previous version.
With 8.501 on amd64 system (2.6.25-r7) several games (mostly quake3 engine based) are segfaulting on exit or when changing screen resolution from game menu: games-sports/trigger: Exit requested Shutting down audio subsystem Shutting down model subsystem Shutting down effects subsystem Shutting down texture subsystem Shutting down render subsystem Segmentation fault games-fps/enemy-territory-etpro: ----- CL_Shutdown ----- RE_Shutdown( 1 ) Received signal 11, exiting... Segmentation fault Also games-fps/enemy-territory-truecombat and games-fps/quake3-bin are crashing in similar way. No such crashes with ati-drivers-8.493. So I suggest to stabilize 8.493 for amd64.
@lu_zero/je_fro: Is there a better version that you can recommend for stablization? (comments #3-5)
the latest should be better (8.532): http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_catalyst_89_linux&num=1 and works with kernel 2.6.26, too. but on my platform it segfaults Xorg :) (but I think we're few in this situation) Xorg 7.4 is not supported, but it does support xorg-server-1.4.2 on other distros (ex. openSUSE 11.0). Xorg 7.4 support should be ready for the next revision next month (to support ubuntu 8.10).
8.532 works fine here. None of the issues that I've mentioned in #5 are present.
I would rather stabilise a version after 8.501, because with a dual-head system the driver dosn't work well. For example: Neverwinter Nights, Warsow & World of Padman dosen't work in dual-head mode. With all Versions after 8.501, gaming in dual-head-mode works perfectly. A good version would be 8.522 or 8.532. Should i open an extra bug-report for this stabilise request?
8.501 ist stable for a long time, so this bug may be closed.
(In reply to comment #10) > 8.501 ist stable for a long time, so this bug may be closed. x86 is not the only arch with support for this, so no, this bug cannot be closed
