On t61 brightness in nvram is presented by 4 bits so current version tpb doesn't work correctly. I prepare a patch for this. Reproducible: Always
Created attachment 153059 [details, diff] patch for tpb-0.6.4

For me, those keys change /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness but VID0/LCD0/brightness controls my brightness. I am trying to figure out how to make tpb change PATHs.
In my t61 they seem to be hardwired but also change state in nvram and in /proc/acpi/video/VID1/LCD0/brightness. By /proc/acpi/video/VID1/LCD0/brightness I can control brightness too. regards j

Anyway, this patch is available through my overlay. You can get it with layman. or on http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/
