A new ebuild developer. An advanced user with highly active bugzilla background, has been helping with e.g. GCC 4.3 porting. Calchan also mentioned he could help out with embedded on #-infra few days ago. Calchan? Ebuild quiz has been sent. http://bugs.gentoo.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&long_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&emailreporter1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=peter.alfredsen%40gmail.com&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=
End of Mentoring quiz sent. He did both quizes inside just few hours. That was fast. However, I'd like to get some time reviewing more of his bugs, and giving more feedback.
(In reply to comment #0) > Calchan also mentioned he could help out with embedded on #-infra few days > ago. There's no obligation, but as he was touching a few dev-embedded ebuilds I thought he had access to some of the devices and could be interested. Peter, what do you need in exchange ? Cookies ? Women ? ;o) (In reply to comment #1) > End of Mentoring quiz sent. He did both quizes inside just few hours. Did you also review his quizzes ? I won't be available for a review before next week anyway. Denis.

I did review both, but found very little to comment or change (our quizes are too easy or he's too good :-) I think our time is best spend with looking at the posted ebuilds while waiting for next week. Peter, what do you think.. which herds you would like to join? I'm not lead for media-video or sound but both surely needs help. We'd need to know which leads to CC here. desktop-misc? desktop-wm? desktop-dock? graphics? > > Denis. >

We'd need to know which leads > to CC here. desktop-misc? desktop-wm? desktop-dock? graphics? A list: gcc-porting net-mail fonts sound I have been doing quite a bit of gcc-porting work. I have a bug where true love has been given to mail-client/nmh, and I've been trying on and off to get elm to actually build without spilling all over the live system. I have a bunch of fonts I'd like to include. From time to time I happen upon a cool program maintained by the sound herd in need of a bit of love. (In reply to comment #2) > There's no obligation, but as he was touching a few dev-embedded ebuilds I > thought he had access to some of the devices and could be interested. Peter, > what do you need in exchange ? Cookies ? Women ? ;o) I don't have any of the devices, sorry. The reason I was touching them was that there seemed to be noone else doing so. Sometimes stuff needs love.
sound@ will accept loki_val as discussed with chainsaw.
Yai! Then I can avoid committing Peter's patches, and leave them to him ;)
(In reply to comment #6) > Yai! Then I can avoid committing Peter's patches, and leave them to him ;) Ok, then! First thing, bug 214278 ... :-)
yes for fonts and gcc-porting.
Yay. Now he can apply all of his patches himself :)
We're in contact to set up the review. Denis.
You're all set now. Have fun. Denis.
The fun is over. I'll still be around, but I don't have enough blood pressure medicine to be a developer.
(In reply to comment #12) > The fun is over. I'll still be around, but I don't have enough blood pressure > medicine to be a developer. > Hope this isn't because what happened on #-dev today, I just wanted to fix the problem instead of working it around specially the fix is clearly available in the Debian bug you pointed out to me. I'm not a part of xfce@, so thus I asked have you opened a bug for it.. then you parted You're one of the best devs around, please reconsider
Take a short break if you feel like tired or something. Please reconsider your decision
Doing Gentoo is just pissing me off too much lately to the point where I get in a bad mood. That's no fun for other Gentooers and it's no fun for me. Time for me to move on.
As others have said, IRC is the source for most devs to consider retirement. =/
I suggest NOT using IRC at all, it works just as well and avoids acid reflux! Seriously Peter... take a break, take a few weeks off Gentoo, get your favourite game and play that instead of doing Gentoo work, then you can relax and you can consider again what you want to do :) Please just don't leave us without trying that first, please... I know very well how the stress can be poisonous...
I believe Peter reconsidered and decided to stay with the project. His recent activity in CVS would suggest that. Closing.
Nah. I'm like a drug addict trying to quit. Please take away my "drugs", they're no good for me. Kthxbye.
(In reply to comment #19) > Nah. I'm like a drug addict trying to quit. Please take away my "drugs", > they're no good for me. Kthxbye. Sad.
My recruiter leaves Gentoo. I find this very sad :-(
Doing my own thing.
Reopening as Peter has been inactive for more than 2 months. - Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: 2011-10-18 - Last CVS activity: Fri, 06 May 2011 04:24:36 First email sent today.
Peter just replied me that he is no longer able to contribute due lack of time and he is ok with retirement. Infra, please go ahead :(
