Description J.C. Wren 2008-04-23 21:23:18 UTC
In spite of having fetched VMware-workstation-5.5.6-80404.tar.gz into /usr/portage/distfiles and having a SHA1 sum that matches the ebuild file, emerge is refusing to acknowledge it's presence or indicate the actual problem that a normal user can fathom. There is no information in the ebuild that indicates where it's expecting the fetched file to live (which in the past has always been /usr/portage/distfiles).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge -ud vmware-workstation
2.
3.

Actual Results:
!!! app-emulation/vmware-workstation-5.5.6.80404 has fetch restriction turned on.
!!! This probably means that this ebuild's files must be downloaded
!!! manually. See the comments in the ebuild for more information.

!!! The following are listed in SRC_URI for vmware-workstation:

Comment 2 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-24 07:16:42 UTC
Hi J.C.

My guess is that you have the vmware-workstation package in the correct location, but that you don't also have vmware-any-any-update115 in the portage distfiles directory as well. This looks very much like bug 183221, except for workstation 5.5.6. Please let me know if that solves you problems, if so I'll add the necessary line in the SRC_URI. Thanks... 5:)
Comment 3 J.C. Wren 2008-04-24 11:29:38 UTC
Downloading http://knihovny.cvut.cz/ftp/pub/vmware/vmware-any-any-update115.tar.gz into /usr/portage/distfiles and re-running the emerge did indeed fix the problem.

Thanks!
Comment 4 J.C. Wren 2008-04-24 11:31:51 UTC
I am curious, though. I had -d turned on for the emerge, so why didn't I see it test for the existence of the vmware-any-any-update115.tar.gz file? Had I seen this, I probably could have figured it out myself.
Comment 5 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-24 18:26:12 UTC
Did you have parallel fetching enabled? Perhaps, since the fetching happens in a different thread there, you won't get the debugging output from the fetch stage? That's about all I can think of?
Comment 6 J.C. Wren 2008-04-24 18:29:34 UTC
As far as I know, I do not. What should I check for?
Comment 7 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-24 18:31:58 UTC
FEATURES="parallel-fetch" enables it, an emerge --info should tell you fairly quickly (also when you emerge things generally, the first thing you'll see is "Starting fetch thread" or something similar, before the first package merges (generally needs more than one package to show that though)...
Comment 8 J.C. Wren 2008-04-24 18:35:07 UTC
Looks like not.

Comment 9 J.C. Wren 2008-04-24 18:35:40 UTC
er, I mean, rather it looks like it is.
Comment 10 skelter 2008-05-29 17:25:43 UTC
It appears softpedia no longer has this version of vmware workstation
http://download.softpedia.ro/linux/VMware-workstation-5.5.6-80404.tar.gz

Version 6 is masked.

Should we bump?
Comment 11 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-05-29 22:55:12 UTC
Skelter, this[1] page shows that 5.5.6 is still the latest version of workstation in the 5 series. Just because softpedia doesn't have it available for download doesn't mean we can bump it.

If you're asking for 6 to be stabilized, then please file a stabilization bug.

Finally, I'm going to close this bug because I think we're now using the mirror:// address to fetch the any-any files, so this should no longer be a problem. If it is, please feel free to reopen the bug. Thanks... 5:)

It now looks like 5.5.6 has been pulled and 5.5.7 is the current release, according to the website. The 5.5.6 download is no longer available from the vmware site. I had to go back to 5.5.5 to upgrade.
Comment 13 Aleksey Yeryomin 2008-06-18 20:58:56 UTC
Version 5.5.5 for linux has version 5.5.6 :-). Filename is right. I downloading this file. Try install later...
