I have kdm(with autologin) and kde running, and arts wont start cause
permissions of /dev/dsp is wrong.
I fixed this by at the kdm login screen, do, ctrl-alt-f1, login, so
/dev/sound/dsp get owned by me, and then alt-f7 and login as normal.
I guess dsp permissions need to be set somewhere else, or available for everyone
before login (?).

You can fix this by adding yourself to the "audio" group.
