I had this problem when I tested gcc-4.3, so this may not be caused by firefox-3.0_beta5: running it now and thunderbird both compiled with gcc-4.2 and thunderbird works fine. See also: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426228
