Description wd 2008-03-30 16:34:11 UTC
sys-apps/hal-0.5.10
gnome-base/gnome-volume-manager-2.22.1

I have start hald and gnome-volume-manager , but gnome didn't autoumount my usb disk any more. It works in gnome 2.20.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:
I use gconf-editor modify /desktop/gnome/volume_manager/automount_drives, but still not work.
Comment 1 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2008-03-30 16:37:00 UTC
Do you have nautilus running? I believe most or all of the automounting has gone into there (unfortunately)
Comment 2 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2008-03-30 19:14:28 UTC
Also be sure that you *don't have* a file called "/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/gparted-disable-automount.fdi", it is dropped by gparted when it doesn't exit properly (for example when crashes) causing problems like this
Comment 3 wd 2008-03-31 05:04:12 UTC
I have nautilus running and I don't have "/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/gparted-disable-automount.fdi" file.
Comment 4 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2008-03-31 19:38:37 UTC
Maybe this is why policykit-* and gnome-mount were masked:
# Saleem Abdulrasool <compnerd@gentoo.org> (23 Nov 2007)
# These might break automounting, so keep them masked for now.
>=sys-auth/policykit-0.6
>=gnome-base/gnome-mount-0.7
>=gnome-extra/policykit-gnome-0.6

I have seen that ubuntu, fedora and opensuse are using policykit-*-0.7 and a snapshot from february for gnome-mount-0.8 (pre)
Comment 5 Yu Yuwei 2008-04-02 18:42:10 UTC
My problem is gnome-2.22 always automount U-disk and all other partitions (the ntfs patitions) and dvds when I login gnome or plug them in, even I emerge -C gnome-volume-manager.

I don't know why, just have to use root to umount /media/* everytime.

this only happened after I login gnome.

hal-0.5.10
gnome-vfs-2.22.0
gnome-mount-0.4
Comment 6 Yu Yuwei 2008-04-02 19:07:04 UTC
After I upgrade gnome-mount to 0.7
U disk work as expected, but usb hard disk still always automounting.
When I plug usb hard disk in, all the reiserfs patitions were automounted and displayed via nautilus.

Seems, this is the problem of gnome-mount
Comment 7 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-02 23:02:32 UTC
gnome-mount is masked because of its policy kit dependency.
Try with gnome-mount 0.6, it should have been pulled by gnome-volume-manager already but somehow you didn't get the upgrade it seems.
Comment 8 Michał Lipski 2008-04-03 19:28:21 UTC
I'm getting these warnings:

after boot OS

Previous warnings I get after plugin pendrive. Here are mounts and mtab for pendrive:
cat /proc/mounts

cat /etc/mtab

/dev/sdd1 /media/michal vfat rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=lower,uid=1000 0 0
Comment 11 wd 2008-04-04 17:23:22 UTC
I'm sorry about this. I made a misstake.
I found I disabled scsi support in kernel,so usb disk can't mount.Recompile my kernel and enable scsi support, automount works again.

So , close this bug?

I am also having issues. Before i upgraded from 2.20.1 to 2.22 my automounts would work.

I have an NFS share that is mounted bu a script if i am at home.

I have a SD card that used to automount when i would plug it in but no longer does.

The NFS script still works and mounts the share but the icon no longer appears on the desktop or in the places menu.

i have an ipod which i can get to auto mount if i plug it in then unplug it then plug it in again.

cdroms are also not mounting automatically.

i have gnome-volume-manager-2.22.1

i have gnome-mount-0.6
here is my fstab

Please remove those lines. HAL does not manage stuff that gets put in your fstab.

> /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,users,ro 0 0
> /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt/sd vfat noauto,noatime,rw,users 0 0
> /dev/sdb2 /mnt/ipod vfat noatime,async,nodev,nosuid,user,rw,users,noauto 0 0

If that doesn't work, please open a new bug as I'll be closing that one INVALID.

Thanks
