If the network is somehow unresponsive or unreachable, it completely locks until the request timeouts. I stress that my config is clean. The default home page is google.com. If you set it to none it still tries to retrieve www.gentoo.org/. `grep -R www.gentoo.org ~/.mozilla` returns 0 results (actually, just one in the cache as expected).
