(I know another bug for this exists, but I have not enough rights to reopen it).
After emerging mod_perl, I get this:

`emerge -pv apache perl libperl` output, please.

That command showed that perl was compiled with USE=ithreads and libperl not. Adding USE=ithreads to /etc/portage/package.use for libperl and rebuilding libperl solved the problem.
Sorry for the noise, I should have chacked that before. Closing the bug.
