Some vulnerabilities have been reported in R, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service), disclose sensitive information, or potentially compromise an application using the library.

The vulnerabilities are caused due to the use of vulnerable PCRE code.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 2.2.1, 2.6.0 and 2.6.1. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Do not parse untrusted regular expressions with R. The vendor will reportedly fix the vulnerabilities in the next release.
