The cause of the problem is upstream bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132138 That is nspluginviewer lacks XEmbed support http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/XEmbed_Extension_for_Mozilla_Plugins Only workaround is to downgrade to version < 9.0.115.0
(In reply to comment #1) > Only workaround is to downgrade to version < 9.0.115.0 I would advise you not to do so, given all the vulnerabilities that are present in any version < 9.0.115.0.
(In reply to comment #1) > That is nspluginviewer lacks XEmbed support We have included Lubos Lunaks patches which got merged upstream for XEmbed support with the latest revision bumps, so basically it should work with newer flash versions now. Just make sure you restart your KDE session after upgrading kdelibs.
Thanks Timo but the point is that these patches are in the versions of kdelibs & nsplugins that I am using & aren't working. (In reply to comment #3) > (In reply to comment #1) > > That is nspluginviewer lacks XEmbed support > > We have included Lubos Lunaks patches which got merged upstream for XEmbed > support with the latest revision bumps, so basically it should work with newer > flash versions now. I can confirm the same problem here - flash 9.0.115.0 always crashes, and kdelibs version installed is 3.5.8-r2. After the downgrade back to 9.0.48.0-r1 flash works fine again.
This problem also occurs for me with netscape-flash-9.0.115.0 in kdelibs-3.5.7-r5 and the nspluginviewer included in kdebase-3.5.7-r5. I recommend the summary be made more generic.
To repeat what has been said above. This is a known problem with other versions of kdelibs/nsplugins. I have logged it here because these particular versions have been patched in an attempt to fix it. If you need flash (&, lets face it, who doesn't these days, unfortunately) then take a look at kmplayer (http://kmplayer.kde.org)which seems to handle the latest version ok in a sledge-hammer-to-nut sort of way.

Hi, for me, combination of ""kdelibs-3.5.8-r2 + nsplugins-3.5.8-r1" brings back possibility to browse web sites with flash and I wasnt experiencing any problems. But after today I updated kdelibs to -r3, konqueror start to hang while loading pages with flash. No crash, but nspluginviewer start to eat all cpu and I have to kill it by hand. Just tried also reboot kde, reemerge nsplugin, but without luck. No crash, but nspluginviewer start to eat all > cpu and I have to kill it by hand. I am sorry and please forgot my previous post. My problems wasnt related to upgrade of kdelibs as I though, especially when kdelibs changelog speaks about "fixes regression caused by the flash compatibility patch". Konqueror hangs/freezing was caused due upgrade of gtk+ to new version 2.12.5. Downgrading back to 2.12.1-r2 solved my problems.

Sorry guys. I've now built kde 3.5.9 and still get nspluginviewer segfaulting routinely on youtube/bbc iplayer.
(In reply to comment #14) > Sorry guys. I've now built kde 3.5.9 and still get nspluginviewer segfaulting > routinely on youtube/bbc iplayer. If you want to see this fixed in any other way than not using the binary crap, file a bug at KDE's, with detailed instructions on how to make it crash, and a backtrace (even though it'll be fairly useless). There really isn't much we can do with "it still segfaults"
I don't expect you to do anything for an upstream bug (except sometimes report it on or check for patches). just not claim that its resolved!
(In reply to comment #13) > (In reply to comment #12) > > The upstream bug has been resolved now > > Can you please add the fix for konqueror? > > KDE 3.5.9 has all the fixes. > Then why isn't kde-3.5.9 marked stable?
(In reply to comment #16) > I don't expect you to do anything for an upstream bug (except sometimes report > it on or check for patches). just not claim that its resolved! Ok, marking it UPSTREAM. (In reply to comment #17) > > KDE 3.5.9 has all the fixes. > Then why isn't kde-3.5.9 marked stable? Because it had only been in the tree for seven days when you asked that. It will be marked stable soon now, though.
I've just finished building KDE 3.5.9 and nspluginviewer keeps crashing everytime I visit a website that uses Flash. I dont understand how this is "RESOLVED" As a side note Kubuntu fixed this bug in KDE 3.5.8 and 3.5.9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nspluginwrapper/+bug/174343
