Description Dave Crisp 2007-11-25 16:07:52 UTC
I got the following when emerging math-pari-2.010709:

QA: other
QA Notice: The following files contain runtime text relocations
Text relocations force the dynamic linker to perform extra
work at startup, waste system resources, and may pose a security
risk. On some architectures, the code may not even function
 properly, if at all.
 For more information, see http://hardened.gentoo.org/pic-fix-guide.xml
Please include this file in your report:
 /var/tmp/portage/dev-perl/math-pari-2.010709/temp/scanelf-textrel.log
TEXTREL usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/Math/Pari/Pari.so
QA Notice: The following files contain executable stacks
Files with executable stacks will not work properly (or at all!)
on some architectures/operating systems. A bug should be filed
at http://bugs.gentoo.org/ to make sure the file is fixed.
 For more information, see http://hardened.gentoo.org/gnu-stack.xml
Please include this file in your report:
 /var/tmp/portage/dev-perl/math-pari-2.010709/temp/scanelf-execstack.log
RWX --- --- usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/Math/Pari/Pari.so

The textrels are already being dealt with in bug #143763, so I'm concerned only with the executable stack here.

This appears to be the same issue which caused the executable stack in the core pari library in bug #117434, and I have confirmed that applying the same patch to the pari source fixes it. I'll add a patch to create an -r1 ebuild to this bug.
