with gentoo-sources more recently of 2.6.20-r8, when i shutdown the laptop I receive the follows problems 1)unable to stopping cpufreq 2)unable to stopping hald (with error to manage handler 0x0011) 3)unable to remountind filesistems why devices are busy Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.download last gentoo-sources 2.copy old config and make "make oldconfig" and install new kernel 3.edit bootloader and reboot Actual Results: i use kernel 2.6.20-r8 i thing that can to be critical why every times that i using this kernel i can "destroy" my filesystem....what can i do? usynd old kernel or this one with all risks?

Stop playing with Product, Component, Severity.. fields if you don't know what you are doing.
Well, according to the dmesg output, your BIOS' ACPI implementation clearly sucks. You should post some info about your HW.

Ok, let's try to clarify some things. What was _exact_ kernel that you tested after gentoo-sources-2.6.20-r8? Was it gentoo-sources-2.6.20-r9 or gentoo-sources-2.6.21? It's important to us to know the first kernel that shows the abnormal behavior. Another thing, please update your laptop BIOS. There is one dated of 07/08/2007 on the Toshiba site, so it's probably thing to do.
i tested the gentoo sources 2.6.21-r4 and 2.6.22-r2 (all 2 stabilized) with the same errors..... the problem "start" if i shutdown the laptop 20 minutes or plus post the it is on
is possible that the errors becomes for the file-system non-contiguos over an percent-rate? tonight with 2.6.22 10 minutes ago i've installed netbeans (230MB of packages), reboot the sistem and reselct new kernel(2.6.22).......when kde started, i attached my ipod and kde is freezed .....i try again rebooting(with my standard errors); re-inserting the ipod and kde-refreezed...rebooting(with errors)...but now making "shutdown -rF now" th analysing have found 17% no contiguos file-system and next-one i've insert the ipod and now no-1 kde-freezing and no rebooting errors....is maybeless?
maybe that i've founde the problem....is the battery/ac-adapter... remember my olf bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=177392 and this new situation i try and found a same way: when klaptop dont see the the battery level/presence, if i try to do " cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state"i've the konsole without output and i cant do crtl-c...... and in in the same situation, if i put out the cable of ac-adapter from laptop, klaptop krask down and if reboot the macchine i see the errors...... the exact error after the no-stopping-hald is "error polling ACPI handler 0x0011"
making my personal test is definitely the problem conducing at an ACPI kernel problem, because turning off, and after turning on the adapter , in the situation of kernel 2.6.20 no problem, all perfect in the situation of kernel 2.6.22 the klaptop krash because unable to read /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state , and the no-accessibility of this file create the problem of my system
Andrea, Can you provide us with the output of: emerge --info Also, can you please test with vanilla-source-2.6.23_rc6 (the latest as of this writing)? Have you attempted to upgrade your bios as asked from Comment #7? Do you get the error if you manually stop cpufreq? If so, can you post the dmesg output after you get the error?
so, now i'm upgrading the world....when i'm finish, i try to compile the vanilla sources...... for the bios, i've upgraded it but without "changes" in the errors... i see the errors when i shuting down the syste...the i can't post dmess

now with the new kernel i see no big problem.....when i will shutdown the pc and see or not problems, i report you the situation
(In reply to comment #15) > now with the new kernel i see no big problem.....when i will shutdown the pc > and see or not problems, i report you the situation > Do you mean you haven't performed a shutdown yet, after your emerge world and with the 2.6.23-rc6 kernel? If that's the case, can you please perform a shutdown to test?
so.....i made the shutdown and for now no problems.......... take this actually for the "solution" ...but for the future i don't know why the problem can be appear after that the the laptop is on for 2-3-4h
Ok, give it some more time. Leave your box on for longer periods before shutting down. Let us know if you've encountered the bug again.
so, i thing that no relevant problems can i say you after my test period.. BUT, i dont know why the cpufreqd say to me to enable cpu_freq_scaling but i've enabled this...see and find that it's on *_kernel_config but the warning alway on... booooohhhhhhh
About your last remark: I don't think that's a kernel bug, cpufreqd is the userspace daemon. The bug you reported is fixed in 2.6.23-rc6, so we'll keep this bug open until gentoo-sources-2.6.23 is released.
gentoo-sources-2.6.23 is in portage as of today.
