You need to install dev-perl/XML-Parser, this should be pulled in by dev-util/intltool but it seems it hasn't.

Please make sure you follow instructions when upgrading, expat instructs you to perform:

revdep-rebuild -X -av after installing it.

For further note, you need to copy and paste the actual errors, which happen higher up and ALL bug reports REQUIRE emerge --info

Ok, thanks
I installed XML-Parser first then I ran revdep-rebuild -X -av and 20 packages were updated, again I ran revdep-rebuild -X -av and I got a message saying that my system was ok and consistent.
Then when running "emerge --update --deep --newuse --ask world" I had no more problems with gnome-mime-data but now with kdepim-3.5.7-r3

I recompiled portage and ran etc-update, revdep-rebuild -X -av again getting the message that my system was ok and consistent.

Again when running "emerge --update --deep --newuse --ask world" I got the same error with kdepim-3.5.7-r3
