Set your locales to C when reporting bugs, we don't want errors in Polish. Also, you didn't post the actual errors at all.

I obtain the same result. Use ginac and qhull flag doesn't help.
octave-forge doesn't compile.

Please try octave-3.0.0 and the new split octave-forge
ebuilds which are in the science overlay if at all
possible. They will be merged into the main tree soonish
and should work fine.

Best,
Markus

We are months ahead now, when is soonish?

octave-3.0.0 will hit portage as soon as the one remaining bug
it depends on is resolved (see bug #153462).

The split octave-forge ebuilds are not yet reliable enough to be
in portage as far as I am concerned (see bug #179885). People
are still reporting problems and I have not gotten nearly enough
feedback from people to feel comfortable to release this to the
masses (sometimes a simple "works for me" helps a lot).

Best,
Markus

I compiled 3.0.1 myself last night and saw some nasty segmentation faults in relation to GCC 4.2.4. (...and bad hardware is also possible ofcourse)
Comment 11 Markus Dittrich (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-05-27 10:27:18 UTC
That's very strange. I have never encountered any segfaults
with octave. Are you sure its octave's fault and not some
bad memory or broken toolchain?

Thanks,
Markus

Both are possible. It seems that 'high load' will cause it. But no memory errors were ever detected on 8GB of the memory the box has.

If you can track down a condition that reproducably triggers
this please file a bug for it. I use octave daily full blast
and haven't had any issues yet.

Best,
Markus

The make check seems to be consistently segfaulting on:

scripts/linear-algebra/condest.m .......................panic: Segmentation fault -- stopping myself...

Thanks, I'll have a look at this. This could also
be a problem in one of the support libraries (lapack, etc.)
but I am not sure what type of things condest.m
exercises.

Best,
Markus

I see a similar problem: sci-mathematics/octave-forge-2006.03.17 doesn't compile. The immediate reason for compilation failed is as follows:

ov-fixed-complex.cc: In member function 'FixedMatrix octave_fixed_complex::fixed_matrix_value(bool) const':
ov-fixed-complex.cc:280: error: 'Vok_to_lose_imaginary_part' was not declared in this scope
ov-fixed-cx-mat.cc: In member function 'virtual NDArray octave_fixed_complex_matrix::array_value(bool) const':
ov-fixed-cx-mat.cc:101: error: 'Vok_to_lose_imaginary_part' was not declared in this scope
ov-fixed-cx-mat.cc: In member function 'virtual double octave_fixed_complex_matrix::double_value(bool) const':
ov-fixed-cx-mat.cc:356: error: 'Vok_to_lose_imaginary_part' was not declared in this scope
ov-fixed-cx-mat.cc:370: error: 'Vdo_fortran_indexing' was not declared in this scope

There are quite lots of such missing declarations.

The beginning of my emerge--info follows (would be happy to provide all info if this can help):

I have unmasked the new octave-3.0.1 last night. If you need octave-forge
I strongly recommend that you move to octave-3.0.1 and emerge the split
octave-forge ebuilds from the science overlay via layman (the current monolithic
octave forge in portage is incompatible with octave-3). Should there be any
problems with these split octave-forge ebuilds (which I don't hope) please
file new bugs instead of appending to this already rather long bug thread.

Thanks a lot for your patience.

Best,
Markus
