Comment 2 Matteo Azzali (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-02 10:31:46 UTC
I suggested this app for removal more than a year ago,
but if it's interface is now bugfree (I've read from the changelog
that at least the cddb is now sanitized for kde 3, even if it's a
bit late with kde4 at the gates) and it added some kind of
support for dvd-format covers it can be a valid alternative
for koverartist.

Before I waste my time, I ask you if is the interface now really compatible
with kde3 and there are other formats than plain jewel case cd.
Comment 3 Matteo Azzali (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-02 10:45:52 UTC
I can answer myself to my questions, the cddb support is still wrong
(on kde there's libkcddb to handle cddb, and it's unbelivable that
a kde specific app should rely on a duplicate of a kde component and
not on the kde component itself).

Not too bad, libcddc is 300kb.But there's more, it requires even libcdio
that's another useless "duplicate" library for kde users, and requires the
compilation of a 2Mb package.

At this point I avoided to emerge kover on my machine as this behaviour
(using only the non-standard libraries, having an interface for KDE 2
while we're near to version 4, etc.etc.) cause it's at least suspect for me
(no mean to harm, suspect of what you want, poor programming ability
or whatever else you want) and IF kover has some feature more than
koverartist, then someone should ask koverartist dev to implement them.

Obviously this is just my opinion, every other kde maintainer can choose
to bump this software, only I'll not get this responsibility (and yes,
I would like to see apps like this out of portage tree).
Comment 4 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-12 22:36:53 UTC
Anyone who wants this? It has no herd, no maintainer, the versions currently in Portage seem to be broken and reading Matteo's comments, I tend to last rite this thing.

Please veto till August, 20th, 2007 or I will p.mask and last rite it.
Comment 5 Timo Gurr (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-12 22:40:16 UTC
Seems to be a good idea to me. I only wanted this to be bumped because someone complained that the current version in the tree doesn't compile and the latest version does. I had no idea that there's such a great alternative like koverartist.
Comment 6 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-21 12:26:05 UTC
package.mask'ed and last rites sent.
Comment 7 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-09-28 19:50:27 UTC
I've removed kover from the tree.
