Description Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-24 08:32:55 UTC
The dependency media-fonts/artwiz-fonts has been masked and needs to be replaced by artwiz-aleczapka-en. It also fails. build.log follows

This has to do with swig 1.3.31, with 1.3.25 it worked fine...maybe punt kahakai? No CVS change in three years.

When I was cleaning desktop-wm of broken packages some time ago, nixphoeni decided to keep kahakai in the tree if he was able to fix the bugs. Apparently, kahakai continues to be a problematic package, as it currently has two open bugs. Maybe, as you stated, the time has come to remove kahakai from the tree, but the decision is ultimately based on what nixphoeni has to say... So, Joe, what do YOU think should be done with kahakai?
Comment 4 Joe Sapp (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-08 03:13:15 UTC
I'm still not convinced that it needs to go despite it having been abandoned by its developers. If it's a problem with newer swig (which IIRC would take quite an overhaul of kahakai to resolve) and there are no security issues with swig-1.3.25, do we need to get rid of it? It's still a nice lightweight and flexible WM, so I can't justify it until I can't compile it.
Comment 5 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-08 05:04:47 UTC
It is broken with current stable swig...so one should port it to that new version or put it back in ~arch.

Any update on the status of this?
Comment 7 Santiago M. Mola (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-09-01 13:09:15 UTC
What about masking for removal?

That's a 30 days time-line to fix it or die. IMO, that's enough, since it has been broken for a while.
Comment 8 Joe Sapp (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-09-08 11:08:51 UTC
Give me a few days to try some things out and post to gentoo-dev. I'd be more inclined if users don't care and I definitely can't make it compile.
Comment 9 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-10-02 01:49:40 UTC
in the meantime, please remove the depend on artwiz-fonts. i need to remove it. if for some reason you need artwiz (dunno why ;P), you can use artwiz-aleczapka-en.
Comment 10 Joe Sapp (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-10-03 03:03:48 UTC
Alright I'll mask it, it's not worth it to maintain. Unless there's an outcry from users and many patches submitted.

Can we finally remove this, please?

I shall extremely soon if nobody objects.
