As above: When I try to playback sound (or fire up the GNOME mixer, or...), I get error messages, unless as root. Downgrading to sys-fs/udev-112-r1 fixed the problem. Mis-identified the problem. Downgrading didn't fix the problem -- running udevstart did. (udev-112 also didn't work on boot -- until running udevstart.) More later, if I figure it out.
