Description Carlos Castillo 2007-07-02 01:38:43 UTC
When running in Icon View in Konqueror file browser, mouseover of a media file plays it (activated in menu View > Preview). However, if the media file is a video file, the konqueror instance doesn't play the preview and freezes until I kill artsd (killall -9 artsd). Manually starting artsd from the command-line shows no message upon the freeze, and can no longer be stopped with a ^C.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Konqueror
2. Activate File Manager
3. Switch to Icon View ( View > View Mode > Icon View )
4. Enable Video Previews ( View > Previews > Video Files )
5. Mouseover a video file.

Actual Results:
Konqueror instance freezes. Can continue if artsd is killed (no sound is produced in konqueror anymore).

Expected Results:
Hear an audio preview of video file, and show a detailed pop-up of information on the file

Attached is a GDB Session (gdb artsd) where I have run artsd in debug logging mode (-l 0).

Comment 3 Carlos Castillo 2007-07-02 01:46:21 UTC
I would like to solve this without disabling previews for video files because it also would disable the Icon Preview, which makes it easy to identify a given file (especially files with cryptic names, such as those on a PSP, or game CD).
Comment 4 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-02 07:22:21 UTC
Don't use arts; seriously.
Comment 5 Wulf Krueger (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-17 00:20:40 UTC
Jakub is right. Upstream has abandoned arts and there's not much hope of getting this fixed.
