The versions of pycdf currently in portage depend on the old numeric package which is no longer maintained.  Requesting to have them removed and upgrade to 0.6-3 which uses the newer numpy.  Also the home page seems to have changed to:

http://pysclint.sourceforge.net/pycdf/
