I would like to be able to unmask a complete package, for example "gentoo-sources" without the need to specify the exact
version. 

"autounmask sys-kernel/gentoo-sources" or better "autounmask gentoo-sources"
would be perfect.

Makes sense to me. Default assumption of unmasking unstable, and nothing else, would make the ui a bit friendlier.
