*** Bug 183723 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I can confirm this bug. Nevertheless there's a way to access the floppy in a clickable manner - RMB click on your desktop -> create new -> device link -> floppy. Make sure to provide an appropriate device file name. But to the bug... hal-device shows this about my floppy: 8: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0_storage' block.minor = 0 (0x0) (int) storage.requires_eject = false (bool) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.method_names = { 'Mount', 'Unmount', 'Eject' } (string list) info.capabilities = { 'storage', 'block' } (string list) storage.bus = 'platform' (string) storage.removable.media_available = false (bool) info.category = 'storage' (string) info.product = 'PC Floppy Drive' (string) storage.drive_type = 'floppy' (string) storage.hotpluggable = false (bool) storage.physical_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0' (string) storage.vendor = 'PC Floppy Drive' (string) storage.media_check_enabled = false (bool) block.is_volume = false (bool) block.storage_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0_storage' (string) info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0' (string) storage.size = 0 (0x0) (uint64) block.device = '/dev/floppy/fd0' (string) storage.no_partitions_hint = true (bool) storage.removable = true (bool) info.vendor = '' (string) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.method_argnames = { 'mount_point fstype extra_options', 'extra_options', 'extra_options' } (string list) info.interfaces = { 'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume' } (string list) volume.mount.valid_options = { 'ro', 'sync', 'dirsync', 'noatime', 'nodiratime', 'noexec', 'quiet', 'remount', 'exec', 'utf8', 'shortname=', 'codepage=', 'iocharset =', 'umask=', 'uid=' } (string list) storage.originating_device = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0' (string) storage.model = '' (string) info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0_storage' (string) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.method_signatures = { 'ssas', 'as', 'as' } (string list) block.major = 2 (0x2) (int) org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.method_execpaths = { 'hal-storage-mount', 'hal-storage-unmount', 'hal-storage-eject' } (string list) linux.hotplug_type = 3 (0x3) (int) linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/block/fd0' (string) storage.automount_enabled_hint = true (bool) So the device is recognized and found mountable, so it's rather KDE kio-slaves that're faulty here, I guess. Should anyone need some more info, feel free to e-mail me, as this is rather annoying for my desktop users and I'm eager to help.
Does this problem persist with 3.5.8?
(In reply to comment #4) > Does this problem persist with 3.5.8? yes it does.
it seems that this bug was fixed again with kde 3.5.9. I've read that there will be no more kde versions for 3.5-series? Hopefully it stays fixed :-).
