Description Christian Ludwig 2007-05-17 14:14:49 UTC
I am updating dbus-python from version 0.71. Compilation fails every time I try.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
emerge dbus-python
Actual Results:
I will attach the log file, since there is so much output that bugzila does not want it in the text.

Expected Results:
A clean compile.

Comment 2 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-17 14:33:11 UTC
I just tried it and it works for me. Try dbus-python-0.81. There were some race conditions in the dbus-python-0.80.2 tests.
Comment 3 Simon Cooper 2007-05-17 15:15:59 UTC
I have the same problem with 0.80.2 and 0.81.0 (amd64)

build log of dev-python/dbus-python-0.81.0

dev-python/dbus-python-0.81.0 errors out, too.

Looks like the same error, but the traceback is different. I just added it for completeness.
Comment 5 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-17 15:52:32 UTC
Like I said, I can't reproduce it on any of my machines. Your best bet might be to file a bug report upstream at the URL provided by the test failure and just provide a link back to the upstream bug report.

It could be with the python version you have... You have both 2.3.5 and 2.4.4 installed.. Maybe it's using 2.3.5 on your system.

No, it couldn't. I only have python-2.4.4 installed but I get the error anyway.

Comment 7 Paolo Pedroni 2007-05-18 12:30:15 UTC
I tried with dbus-python-0.81.0 and it does not work either.
Comment 8 Christian Ludwig 2007-06-12 21:21:37 UTC
My journey goes on.

I have dectivated FEATURES=test for dev-python/dbus-python-0.80.2 and tried to compile the package. Now FEATURES=collision-protect kicks in and portage says that dbus-python wants to replace files, which belong to other packages. equery did not reveal any package, where the files belong to. Unfortunately I have lost the file list. Deactivating FEATURES=collision-protect made me compile the package. Recompiling it afterwards with FEATURES="test colision-protect" enabled went fine.

I guess the dbus-python test suite uses the already installed versions of the programs, instead of the ones from the new package.

I have no clue what the mess with collision-protect could be here. Ideas are welcome, OTOH the problem is solved for me now. Not the way I like updating stable packages, but now it works.
Comment 9 Simon Cooper 2007-07-08 17:52:07 UTC
test has just reappeared in the tree, still failing with same errors...

Me, too. Same as before.
Comment 11 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-09 13:59:33 UTC
I still can't reproduce this issue at all. I still recommend talking to upstream in #dbus on Freenode or contacting them.

*** Bug 187685 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 13 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-08 19:53:35 UTC
upstream knows of several issues with the tests. marking this issue as upstream, since as soon as they decide to fix it... we'll fix it.
