Description Eric Polino 2007-05-16 18:14:02 UTC
MSN use flag isn't set by default.

Reproducible: Always

I have heard it from many people that they are annoyed that MSN isn't enabled by default. Then they have to enable it and rebuild. Being a rather long build, this can be rather annoying. One can argue that one should check their USE flags before starting a compilation, but being that this protocol is used quite often, I find it should be set by default nonetheless.

Upon speaking with the pidgin developers, it seems better to enable all the protocols and then have users remove the ones they don't want later.

When most people install pidgin they just want it to work, requiring them to
read and set use flags to get the protocols they want just causes them to be
confused when the protocols don't show up/work correctly.
On the contrary, people who know they don't want protocols can fully be
expected to read about how to turn them off.

Therefore, enabling all the protocols by default is a better solution then
disabling many of them by default.

It could be done but I hope it won't, I hate sticking -flags in my make.conf.

Well, if fact it can't be done ATM except by sticking stuff to global make.defaults or package.use.force ATM, which clearly sucks.
