Description Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-16 12:10:46 UTC
Title says it all. been in portage a good time now, unstable for al ong time, and no notable outstanding bugs.
Comment 1 Roeland Douma 2007-05-16 14:46:58 UTC
I just compiled this yesterday (i compiled openoffice which has it as dependancy). Openoffice works like a charm here on AMD64. So db has to work as well :)

sys-libs/db-4.5.20_p2 compiled clean and no collision.

20 hours into the self-test on sparc, I see:
Running hash tests
UNEXPECTED OUTPUT: Berkeley DB 4.5.20: (September 20, 2006)
UNEXPECTED OUTPUT: FAIL: Problem reported killing process 16409: child process exited abnormally
UNEXPECTED OUTPUT: FAIL: Problem reported killing process 16421: child process exited abnormally

UNEXPECTED OUTPUT: FAIL: Problem reported killing process 18838: child process exited abnormally

and so on,
finally getting to
UNEXPECTED OUTPUT: FAIL:14:24:21 (00:00:00) open_create_err: expected db open:permission denied, got db7890

Does this block stabilization?
Comment 3 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-05-17 19:47:43 UTC
do the tests pass in an older version (4.3 perhaps?)

Honestly, I don't know if the failing tests are worth blocking or not. I haven't seen them fail on x86.

I investigated a little bit further, current stable fails the test too (but it's not the same).
On my other box I emerged the package without the test-suite and did a revdep-rebuild, except of the current stable apr-util everything emerged w/o problems. I opened a stabilisation request for a newer apr-util (bug 179003), but the maintainer didn't respond so far.

I can't seem to make heads or tails of the test suite failures, but I can tell you that db-4.5 works fine with all db related programs I've had on my systems (replacing db-4.3). I would say we should just RESTRICT the tests.

Sigh...ok, restrict it, we now only wait for apr-utils, the other bugs this depends on can be fixed in one run with stabilisations.

Same for sparc, best as I can determine? I think we are good but awaiting confirmation.

This bug also depends on Bug 171081.
Please add, i can't.

Result: At the moment, cyrus-imapd is broken on amd64.

ia64 doesn't have keyworded the broken apps, so ia64 stable
Comment 16 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-27 14:38:20 UTC
Bug 169507 has been in 'depends on' before anyone has keyworded this. It's not there just because it's cool to have a bug depend on another one. :P

dev-libs/apr,{-util}-0.9.12-r1 needs to be stabilized with this, re-CCing everyone.
Comment 17 Gustavo Zacarias (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-27 14:44:28 UTC
There's no apr-0.9.12-r1 jakub...

Forget about apr, it's just apr-util. Not to mention that net-mail/cyrus-imapd is broken as well (Bug 171081) and maintainer doesn't care to respond at all. :/

Comment 19 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-27 15:32:35 UTC
For reasons unknown[1], two things went wrong a long while back. First of all, keywords for a couple of arches were dropped, and secondly, the relevant arches weren't notified. armin76 already noticed this for alpha so I am only adding the remaining non-keyworded arches to the CC field. If alpha needs to keyword 4.4 as well, I guess the maintainer should CC alpha.

[1] My best guess the 4.3.29 re-keywording bug was still open when the 4.4 ebuild was forked from that ebuild into somebody's overlay.

sparc done.
Comment 21 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-28 08:02:11 UTC
ppc64 already stable
Comment 22 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-28 13:06:32 UTC
ia64 stable again
Comment 23 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-28 13:26:56 UTC
amd64,ppc,ppc64,sparc: can you please stop breaking stable stuff?

Don't stabilize this until bug 171081 is fixed.

Then take off arches from this bug until the other bug is fixed or add them to the other bug.

Best would be a clean new bug with the arch-instructions when everything has been resolved in the ebuilds. Ever thought about that it's hard to track stable request bugs with a misleading title and two dozens of replies, and in the end you simply don't know what you should do?

Sorry for my rant, but I'm taking off ppc until you either change the subject, find a solution for the dependency problem or create a new bug. It's really not arch-specific, so there is no need for ppc to watch your discussion.

Marked ~hppa.
Comment 26 Christoph Mende (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-08 18:08:49 UTC
Removing amd64, ppc64 and sparc again, cyrus-imapd is fixed
Comment 27 Matthias Langer 2007-07-23 14:36:41 UTC
on x86:

as the bugs in "depends" seem to be fixed for x86 with the exception of bug 184673 i decided to give

sys-libs/db-4.5.20_p2 USE="java -bootstrap -doc -nocxx -tcl -test*"

a try. to actually make other packages use it, i've removed all older versions, and ran revdep-rebuild, on a system where

$ equery -q depends sys-libs/db
app-office/openoffice-2.2.1
dev-lang/perl-5.8.8-r2
dev-lang/python-2.4.4-r4
dev-libs/apr-util-1.2.8
dev-util/subversion-1.3.2-r4
gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-1.8.3-r5
gnome-extra/libgda-1.2.3
mail-filter/bogofilter-1.1.5
net-nds/openldap-2.3.35-r1
sys-apps/iproute2-2.6.19.20061214
sys-devel/libperl-5.8.8-r1
sys-libs/gdbm-1.8.3-r3
sys-libs/pam-0.78-r5

till now, i did not experience any problems...

Comment 29 Roy Marples (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-06 13:53:18 UTC
x86-fbsd and sparc-fbsd have unstable keywords now (we don't have a stable branch yet)
Comment 30 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-09 03:06:53 UTC
Stable for HPPA.
Comment 31 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-27 11:38:28 UTC
x86, is this still in your radar?
Comment 32 Jurek Bartuszek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-27 17:17:56 UTC
