When trying to emerge ipw3945 driver with gentoo-sources-2.6.21 the ebuild states that this kernel is using the patched version of 802.11 bundled with gentoo-portage. The 802.11 package was, obviously, not installed, but the check into ebuild fails. Using stable gentoo-sources (2.6.20-r8) evertything goes fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge (with symlink USE) gentoo-sources-2.6.21 2. emerge ipw3945 Actual Results: Impossible to emerge ipw3945 due to the net-wireless/802.11 check Expected Results: Emerge works and module is installed Using stable gentoo-sources everything works.

I just tried to reproduce this w/ gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r1, but I can't seem to trigger the same response you got. It just went smooth right through ... And the kernel source you installing w/ is surely configured and prepared for an external modules compilation (you should at least have run make prepare in /usr/src/linux) ?
(In reply to comment #1) I used 2.6.21-gentoo (not r1) nor I do not prepare the kernel. I will try later and I will report > (In reply to comment #0) > > When trying to emerge ipw3945 driver with gentoo-sources-2.6.21 the ebuild > > states that this kernel is using the patched version of 802.11 bundled with > > gentoo-portage. > > The 802.11 package was, obviously, not installed, but the check into ebuild > > fails. > > > > Using stable gentoo-sources (2.6.20-r8) evertything goes fine. > > > > Reproducible: Always > > > > Steps to Reproduce: > > 1. emerge (with symlink USE) gentoo-sources-2.6.21 > > 2. emerge ipw3945 > > > > > > Actual Results: > > Impossible to emerge ipw3945 due to the net-wireless/802.11 check > > > > Expected Results: > > Emerge works and module is installed > > > > Using stable gentoo-sources everything works. > > I just tried to reproduce this w/ gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r1, but I can't seem to > trigger the same response you got. Works fine here (with gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r3 though): emerge -vp gentoo-sources ipw3945 These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done!
