There is a missing symlink in ca-certificates package that disables SSL stuff for cacert.org users:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     52 May  5 13:29 cacert.org.pem -> /usr/share/ca-certificates/cacert.org/cacert.org.crt

It breaks at least systems that are using Postfix for SMTP with TLS support.
