After upgrading to 2.6.20 gentoo-sources I noticed that my keyboard leds stopped working. This is a Microsoft Comfort Curve USB keyboard, nothing fancy. Reproducible: Always ArchLinux has a patch against this problem in their kernel package. Gentoo can just incorporate it: http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/kernels/kernel26/revert_LED.patch?rev=HEAD&cvsroot=Current&only_with_tag=CURRENT&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup I'm relatively new to Linux so I don't know if (and how) this should be submitted to main kernel developers, sorry. Research on IRC shows that only some keyboards are affected.
This has nothing to do with genkernel.
Can you confirm that the patch solves the problem for you?
Yes, of course. I'm running with this patch applied and the leds work perfectly.
Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 USB keyboard here. Same problem. Confirmed that the patch fixes it.
Thanks for finding the patch, fixed in gentoo-sources-2.6.20-r8 and 2.6.21
