NOT baselayout.
Sigh; who did put this into official tree? :X
NOT gnome. steev put this in on request of GNOME team as for the Gnome team to be able to actually bring you GNOME-2.18 (among other good or better reasons), p.masked for testing, which has yielded good results as manifested by this bug report (so that it can be fixed before coming out of p.mask together with gnome-2.18). Regardless of all that, I'll reassign to the proper assignee now.. Art N., thanks for testing and I'm confident steev and co will get you a solution soon! :)
What linux-headers are you using? Please provide emerge --info.
Created attachment 115195 [details] emerge --info Thanks for the help Steev. Attached is emerge --info.
Okay, can you bump your linux-headers? If I recall correctly, 2.6.11 headers don't have inotify headers in there. Please try 2.6.17 (I have 2.6.17-r2)
Bumping to 2.6.17-r2 headers fixed the build, but service /etc/init.d/hald fails to start after the build is complete. /etc/init.d/hald start * Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer daemon ... [ !! ]
Please retest with hal-0.5.9
Thanks for the help Doug. I Tried emerge -av hal-0.5.9 and unmasked sys-auth/consolekit and etc-update. /etc/init.d/hald start still fails with same results as hal-0.5.9_rc2.
Start HAL with /usr/sbin/hald --daemon=no and post the results as to why it's not starting here.
(In reply to comment #11) > Start HAL with /usr/sbin/hald --daemon=no and post the results as to why it's > not starting here. > hald --daemon=no Runner started - allowed paths are '/usr/libexec:/usr/lib64/hal/scripts:/usr/bin' *** [DIE] osspec.c:watch_fdi_files():349 : Unable to initialize inotify: Function not implemented

What's the output of /lib/libc.so.6? I bet your glibc needs to be recompiled. Have you upgraded your linux-headers since the last time you recompiled glibc? I must have forgotten to hit submit on this... this has been in a tab in firefox for days... sorry.
Thanks Doug, Steev, and Mart for all of your patience and assistance. That fixed hal/hald daemon and hal-0.5.9 is up and running.
