sys-apps/hal (and subsequently gnome-power-manager) reports the battery with about a 1000x increase in all(?) battery related readings. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run gnome-power-manager or "lshal | grep battery.charge" on a battery equipped laptop Actual Results: Battery has a reported capacity of over 87,000 W Expected Results: Battery has a real capacity of about 87 W (under x86) Manually installing HAL 0.5.8+ fixed the battery readings in gnome-power-manager. This workaround probably breaks a number of other things though. There seems to be a number of x86_64 related bugs in HAL, this bug is just one of the more obvious ones.
You didn't specify versions of ANYTHING with this report nor attach emerge --info.

(In reply to comment #2) > I've the same problem, i'm with hal 0.5.9-r1, and gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r4. > did you ever got it working ? I ask because some stuff that was introduce post 2.6.20 could break battery reading iirc.
It works with my old linux kernel 2.6.20 but never with my 2.6.21-r4
did you activated deprecated /proc/acpi entries in kernel config ?
No i've disabled procfs ACPI cause it's deprecated now, is there noway to workaround (without having to activate it) ?
Still no mention of exact versions of all the apps complained about namely, or if there is mention it's ambiguous. -hal -g-p-m (which had a complete overhaul of how IT calculates the battery charge level) -kernel
