Description Sandy McArthur 2002-04-11 19:28:53 UTC
Updated version of the VMware Workstation ebuild. From the Changelog:

11 Apr 2002; William McArthur <leknor@leknor.com>: New version of VMware
Workstation released. The ebuild was updated for this version. The Gentoo
(/etc/init.d/vmware) init script was changed to capture the output from the
VMware (/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware) script and prettify (Is that a word?) it's
output to look more like the Gentoo boot output. Also, any error lines from
the vmware init script are sent to the system logger to hopefully increase
their chance of being noticed. I made an icon from the logo off of vmware.com
for use in "start" type menus. It can be found in /opt/vmware/lib/icon/ .
If kde is in the USE var then menu items are automatically added for the user.

drobbins: This version of VMware doesn't need the patched 2.4.19 kernel.

Oh yea, once added to portage this also closes Bug #1649

Hi; I'd like to add you as a developer so you can maintain this (and maybe some
other?) ebuilds for us. Interested?
Comment 4 Sandy McArthur 2002-04-13 01:23:17 UTC
I dunno, I have enough responsibilities that I don't feel I could maintain a
consistent enough level of responsibility. If you want to make me a "junior
developer" or something that doesn't place full responsibility on my shoulders
then I'm cool with that. Otherwise I'm happy to let my work be added by proxy.

That said my current want to do for gentoo list includes:
1) Backgrounding downloads so that the downloads for the next package to be
compiled can be downloaded as the current one is compiling. I think slow link
users would love this one.
2) Explore how icc could be easily intergrated with the ebuild system. Worst
case a semi-ugly `use icc` hack.
Comment 5 Sandy McArthur 2002-04-13 02:21:25 UTC
hold off on adding this. I need to add tcl to the DEPEND. Also I want to make
one cosmetic change that didn't warrant a new package release.

Final ebuild package for VMware 3.1.1.170

This version of vmware works with tcl-8.3.3 so it fixes the vmware-wizzard
problem some people have had. The ebuild has been corrected to depend on
tcl-8.3.3 and the /etc/init.d/vmware script has been rewritten to handle error
output from /etc/vmware/init.d/vmware much much better.

(The previous attachement 532 should no longer be used.)
Comment 7 Sandy McArthur 2002-04-19 01:25:18 UTC
added the new VMware to cvs

Nice work William :)
