make sure you have the latest version of perl and dev-perl/ExtUtils-MakeMaker ... if you do, re-emerge them for good measure ... then try to re-emerge pilot-link ... if that still fails, well yell at us some more ;)
Remerging perl and makemaker seems to have fixed this problem. *Shrug* Closing.
