Description phrexianreaper 2007-01-13 01:11:38 UTC
Ok, the info I have dealing with this isn't as detailed as I would like, but anyways.

Whenever I start centericq, and after inputing my passwords, it goes through the normal login phase. When it logs into MSN, right after it checks the email account, it seg faults. I can start it without MSN, and it works fine.

I recompiled centericq with the standard CFLAGS. Still no improvement.

I did run gdb with centericq, and got a trace back to libc.so.6. The error:

0xb7b14aa2 in strtouq () from /lib/libc.so.6

I recompiled both glibc and centericq with CFLAGS="-g3" to try and get a bit more detailed output, but it only removed the debug symbol errors and spitted out the same problem.

I'm running the x86 stable version of glibc, and have been having this problem for awhile. I even removed my previous install, eclean-disted, removed my config files, and tried again with the same results.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start Centericq
2.input passwords
3.watch output in the log screen, with the Segmentation Fault error following the email check for MSN

Actual Results:
Seg fault.

Expected Results:
It should have gone through, and loged me into my chat accounts before sorting through my contact list

Please, post the whole backtrace, not one line...
Comment 2 phrexianreaper 2007-01-13 02:41:04 UTC
If you know how to get more, then please tell me. I posted all that I got.

Like I said, I didn't get much. Don't beleive me, try it yourself.

package.masked pending removal for Bug 160793...
Comment 5 phrexianreaper 2007-01-14 00:40:49 UTC
So there are plans to remove pretty much the only decent text-mode chat client from the tree?
Comment 6 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-14 00:52:47 UTC
yep, that's basically it.. No one seems to be interested enough to maintain it and fix all the bugs...
Comment 7 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-14 00:58:15 UTC
Dupe of Bug 131426 anyway.

Won't just leave it masked for those of us who actually care for a decent chat client then?

Our definitions of decent are probably incompatible... :P

Bug 81422, Bug 88640, Bug 116962, Bug 117358, Bug 131426, Bug 138154, dead upstream and security Bug 160793 as an added bonus....
Comment 10 phrexianreaper 2007-01-14 01:12:48 UTC
All but two of those have patches listed in the bug list. This a case of "Well, I don't feel like it, so lets just slate it for removal"?

As for definitions of "decent", try the only one like it. Anything else is only for a single protocol, and as anyone with any CLI experiance knows, its annoying to have to switch between screens constantly to keep up with things.
Comment 11 Olivier Crete (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-14 01:18:47 UTC
the patch for the 64bit doesn't work.. and more importantly, there is no patch for the security bug. if you are willing to maintain it, we can reconsider the masking.
Comment 12 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-14 01:44:49 UTC
Please stop producing useless noise here.

Has anyone looked at the CVS sources? (Dated: 2006-09-29)

Yeah, about time they stopped producing those useless tarballs. Hint: look inside at the timestapms; the source code was last touched in mid-2005 (no, the autotools noise and precompiled cruft that shouldn't be in the tarball at all doesn't count as updates).

Sorry for acting like a bit of an ass. This does get old, though.

I'm going to look into something to fix this, or start to make a replacement. I've needed something to work on to learn to code, so this would be a decent place to start.
