Description Grzegorz Dubicki 2007-01-07 21:00:12 UTC
When emerging dev-lang/php-4.4.4-r6 (latest x86 php4 at the moment) or dev-lang/php-4.4.4-r8 and 'xml' USE flag is set but 'expat' USE flag in *not* then XML support is not being built into PHP.

This is couterintuitive as most users that want PHP with XML support will probably set just the 'xml' flag.

It is also hard to find out that you need 'expat' USE flag also set.

(I learned it from reading http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.xml.php, the part: "Installation

These functions are enabled by default, using the bundled expat library. You can disable XML support with --disable-xml. If you compile PHP as a module for Apache 1.3.9 or later, PHP will automatically use the bundled expat library from Apache. In order you don't want to use the bundled expat library configure PHP --with-expat-dir=DIR, where DIR should point to the base installation directory of expat. ")

I propose that:

1. setting only the 'xml' flag should make dev-lang/php with XML support

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="xml" emerge -v '=dev-lang/php-4'

Actual Results:
PHP 4 is being built without XML support.

Expected Results:
PHP 4 should be build with XML support.

Yes, you need USE=expat for PHP4; not a bug.
