Description Daniel Klaffenbach 2006-12-29 03:18:42 UTC
After upgrading from KDE 3.4 to 3.5 the fonts in KDE applications (sometimes) look pretty strange. This usually happens in Konqueror, but also in other KDE apps. For some reason I have never experienced problems with non-KDE apps, such as firefox or gimp. Please check the attached pictures.

problems in konqueror

as you can see the fonts (especially in the 3rd result) are messed up. sometimes it's worse, sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

i've already tried to enable and disable anti-alising, but it did not change anything. the problem does not seem to be driver-related. it happens with the fglrx as well as with the radeon driver. under a parallel installation of SLED 10 everything works fine.

ghostscript problem?

i don't know if this is related to the problem, but printing pdfs doesn't work any more either, everything looks messed up... maybe it is a ghostscript problem, but it might also have something to do with this bug.

Is this still a problem and if so, with which KDE version?
Comment 7 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-05 15:21:19 UTC
Daniel, get back to us with the requested information, please.
Comment 8 Daniel Klaffenbach 2007-07-05 18:27:09 UTC
The problem disappeared after installing OpenOffice & the ATI drivers. I'm using KDE 3.5.7 right now and everything works fine.
I'm planning on reinstalling Gentoo on that machine (in approx. a month) and I'll check if the problem appears again.
Comment 9 Daniel Klaffenbach 2007-07-15 17:23:14 UTC
Everything is OK now. I reinstalled Gentoo (2007.0) and I did not experience any problems with fonts or similar things.
