Python build alows for gnome and kde's archives to readliy use the formats
gentoo pckage can be built manualy  and gnomes FM will then process LZO upx etc.
Know to fucntion Under Fedora Core 3 and 4  with manual ./configure & build 

Nice Enhancement esp. if you Guest users have 0>Clue about linux

does anything you know of use java or perl bindings?

If you could draft an ebuild that would be really nice.

lzo-1 is no longer in tree, only lzo-2 is.    open a new bug if you find bindings for lzo-2.
