Description Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-16 00:57:34 UTC
pena libata # emerge -pv portage
--- 'profiles/arch.list' is empty or not available. Empty portage tree?
Traceback (most recent call last):

    if portage.global_updates(settings, trees, mtimedb["updates"]):

    update_data = grab_updates(updpath, prev_mtimes)

  File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage_exception.py", line 9, in __init__
    self.value = value[:]
TypeError: sequence index must be integer, not 'slice'

This is bad because even emerge --sync does not work
pena libata # emerge --sync
--- 'profiles/arch.list' is empty or not available. Empty portage tree?

To reproduce:
1. added PORTDIR="/something/that/does/not/exist" to /etc/make.conf

pena libata # emerge --info

Comment 1 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2006-12-16 02:06:03 UTC
Apparently it only happens with python-2.5. It's fixed in svn r5303.
Comment 2 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2006-12-16 17:20:52 UTC
This has been released in 2.1.2_rc3-r6.
