If you think configure made a mistake, make sure you are using the latest
version from SVN. If the latest version fails, report the problem to the
ffmpeg-devel@mplayerhq.hu mailing list or IRC #ffmpeg on irc.freenode.net.
Include the log file "config.err" produced by configure as this will help
solving the problem.

--as-needed and stable -> adios.
Comment 3 Steven Elling 2007-01-16 05:13:41 UTC
I'm having problems building ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20061016, too. I get the same error.

I have the latest stable version installed: lame-3.96.1. Removing "-Wl,--as-needed" from LDFLAGS gets rid of the error message and ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20061016 builds successfully.
Comment 4 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2007-01-20 19:00:36 UTC
From  >=lame-3.96.1-r1 ebuilds :
    # Make sure -lm is linked in the library to fix other programs linking to
    # this while using --as-needed
    epatch "${FILESDIR}"/${PN}-3.96.1-asneeded.patch

as-needed is not officially supported and for a lot of cases does NOT work for stable packages. IMHO you should really remove it from your ldflags or be ready to face such problems.

This one is a lame problem, not ffmpeg. If you want an as-needed ready version of lame in stable, please test it for a while and file a bug for stabilizing it.

All done here, apparently.
