It makes the emerge fail, the depend style in the ebuild is unknown to me, so i'll leave it to others.

Which ebuild emerge? Reopen with some errors please.

This is the error I get when emerging sys-apps/hal-0.5.7.1-r2 as part of a world update

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for PACKAGE... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.6.0, gobject-2.0 >= 2.6.0, dbus-glib-1 >= 0.33, dbus-1 >= 0.33) were not met:

No package 'dbus-glib-1' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables PACKAGE_CFLAGS
and PACKAGE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

dev-libs/dbus-glib is not installed. however, when I try to emerge hal specifically, rather than as part of a world update, it pulls in dev-libs/dbus-glib as a dependency.

This can happened to two different systems today, one running ~pp and one ~amd64.
