*** Bug 156567 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
If it helps, this broke in a recent portage sync. Before syncing, I got * Done with patching * Running eautoreconf in '/var/tmp/portage/sys-boot/grub-0.97-r3/work/grub-0.97' ... * Requested autoconf 2.5 * Using autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.61 * Using autoheader (GNU Autoconf) 2.61 * Requested automake 1.9 * Using automake (GNU automake) 1.9.6 * Using aclocal (GNU automake) 1.9.6 After syncing today (without merging any updates): * Done with patching * Running eautoreconf in '/var/tmp/portage/sys-boot/grub-0.97-r3/work/grub-0.97' ... * Requested autoconf 2.5 * Using autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.61 * Using autoheader (GNU Autoconf) 2.61 * Requested automake latest: 1.10 * Using automake (GNU automake) 1.10 * Using aclocal (GNU automake) 1.10
Ahh, the patch that caused the problem: http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/sys-boot/grub/grub-0.97-r3.ebuild?r1=1.3&r2=1.4
to phrase it more correctly, the change that triggered a bug in the grub autotool code is ...
happens on amd64 too
Reproduced here. Downgrading automake worked perfectly.

fixed in cvs
