Since version 8.29, <R300 support has been removed from ati-drivers. The DESCRIPTION in more recent ebuilds is incorrect when it says "Ati precompiled drivers for r350, r300, r250 and r200 chipsets" This should be changed in the newer ebuilds to something like "ATi precompiled drivers for R300 and newer chipsets"
Perhaps this could be split into ati-drivers and ati-legacy-drivers, as has been done with the nVidia drivers?

I don't understand what it is that takes over a month for any dev to even comment anything in this matter? If there was no problem creating nvidia-legacy-drivers I don't see why this hasn't been done yet with ati-drivers. Please enlighten me... And update desc. in older ebuilds now, it would save me and and my fellow "legacy"-chipset-user-friends a whole lot of time trying out what ati-drivers works with which kernel. Cheers! /Charlie
and fix plz install: cannot stat `fglrx.ko': No such file or directory problem for old drivers like ati-drivers-8.28.8 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156876
Bug about ati-drivers version that doesn't exist any more in the tree -> WONTFIX.
Read the summary properly (*>=*) and look in the tree. There are a couple of ebuilds that haven't been fixed. (Inaccurate DESCRIPTION in ebuilds for 8.32.5 - 8.33.6-r1), but all newer ones are sufficiently vague in their DESCRIPTION. Resolve it as fixed if you want.
As you wish.
