Description Boris Carlitov 2006-11-20 05:03:13 UTC
I recently upgraded to kde 3.5 and amarok stopped working. I get this message in a popup:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amarok could not find any sound-engine plugins. Amarok is now updating the KDE configuration database. Please wait a couple of minutes, then restart Amarok.
If this does not help, it is likely that Amarok is installed under the wrong prefix, please fix your installation using:
$ cd /path/to/amarok/source-code/
$ su -c "make uninstall"
$ ./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` && su -c "make install"
$ kbuildsycoca
$ amarok
More information can be found in the README file. For further assistance join us at #amarok on irc.freenode.net.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and in the konsole window I get:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
kbuildsycoca running...
Reusing existing ksycoca
kio (KSycoca): ERROR: No database available!
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: '/usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/ark.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'application/x-tbz2'
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: '/usr/share/applications/kde/amarok.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'audio/midi'
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: '/usr/share/applications/kde/amarok.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'audio/x-aac'
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: '/usr/share/applications/kde/amarok.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'audio/x-m4a'
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: 'ark_part.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'application/x-tbz2'
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: 'karm_part.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'text/english'
...[this continues]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

amarok does not start.

When I download the source directly and install it into /usr/kde/3.5/ everything works fine. xine audio plugin is detected and there are no mimetype errors. It seems that there is some configuration issue with the gentoo ebuild.

There are a number of "fixes" on the forums, such as changing various permissions on files or directories, copying ksycoca from the root user to my user and changing permissions. None of these solutions work for me (in fact I posted one of the solutions for a previous upgrade of kde and it no longer works as well).

Huh? How is bug 130052 a fix? I just installed and it's still broken. The bug is for 1.4.beta, I'm installing 1.4.4 and still getting the problem.

please _actually_ fix so that I can 'emerge amarok' and have it work.

Isn't that the standard for "works"
