Description Olek Poplavsky 2006-11-19 07:13:05 UTC
Just tried to install fresh gentoo, first attempted install based on GRP binaries, found a showstopper - could not upgrade to new gcc-4.1.1-r1 and there was small issue with Xorg. Wiped everything out, did manual reinstall, this time Xorg works great, but I still have same issue with gcc. Even gcc-4.1.1 (current one) fails to recompile when I intoruced new USE flags "X gtk".

Failure seems to be happening always at the same place but with different messages. Once it was "kernel panic - could not kill idle task", other times it is just segmentation fault.

Please help, this is a showstopper - I can not even install gnome now because of it...

Looks like you should check your hardware (RAM etc.)
