I'm am using Portage with ROOT mounted over NFS. I receive a lot of errors like these. Can we silence them please?

I think >=portage-2.1.1 ignores hidden files like that.  Your portage version?

Seemingly not, I'm running 2.1.2_pre2-r8.

This is fixed in svn r4817.
