I emerged the latest beta of xfree and the savage driver that is built causes my display to become corrupted. The older savage_o.drv that was built with xfree-4.2.1-r2 works flawlessly with the beta. This problem occurs with all display depths and with/without a framebuffer console.
I've had the same issues. Perhaps merge the updated sources from Tim Roberts's site (ftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/savage-1.1.26t.tgz). The current release in the xfree ebuild is 1.1.25t. I'm not sure if this will work, I haven't gotten it to work yet. Mainly because I'm still new to gentoo. He does state on his site in the changelog: "Perhaps the biggest change in 26t has to do with distribution. Many people reported that my drivers would crash with an illegal instruction fault when used on SuSE 8.x, Mandrake 9.0, or Gentoo 1.2 or 1.4 distributions. I'm still not quite sure how these folks built XFree86 4.2.0 in an incompatible way, but they seem to have done so. Fortunately, if the libvbe.a and libint10.a modules are built on the same machine as the Savage driver, then the problem no longer occurs. Thus, I am now releasing all three as a package. Only people using those distributions need to worry about the extra libraries!" Hopefully this fixes it.
for the record, I have a toshiba satellite 2805-s301 with a Savage MX/IX card (8MB RAM)
no, in 4.2.99.4, it's 1.1.26t version of the savage driver...
Hannes just added an update to the savage driver, I believe. hannes?
Does the updated driver work or not ?
I updated the driver to 1.1.27t and it works great here (on a IBM T23). 1.1.26t didn't work here.
can you check with X-4.2.99.902 please?
closing as the newest savage driver seems to be working successfully for people.
