output of emerge sys-libs/glibc

I'm trying to update a system from an older version of gentoo to the latest. The original emerge system failed so I've retried the failed package to see if I could identify the problem and fix it on my own.

Things I've had to do:

resolve a known bug, don't remember the number, about pointing to an older make.profile

manually go into the distfiles and compile and install the latest tar as the latest portage uses an option not in older versions.

I can create an account and offer sudo access to a gentoo developer if needed to resolve this issue.

You gcc is way too old.
